Vintage Takahashi Japan Blue White Porcelain Plate Thousand Cranes Waves 9.5"
Stunning Vintage Takahashi San Francisco Japanese Porcelain Plate - Thousand Cranes & Waves Up for sale is an exquisite vintage Japanese porcelain dinner/display plate, curated and imported in the 1970s-1980s by the renowned Takahashi Trading Company (Takahashi San Francisco). This beautiful 9.5-inch plate features a unique scalloped, multi-sided rim that adds sophisticated dimension to its form.
The face of the plate is dramatically decorated in a rich underglaze cobalt blue over crisp white porcelain. The lower portion features the traditional Japanese "Seigaiha" (Ocean Waves) pattern, from which a dynamic flock of "Thousand Cranes" (Flying Cranes) ascends, completely filling the sky. In Asian culture, both cranes and waves are powerful symbols of longevity, peace, and good fortune.
The underside features the classic square blue underglaze apocryphal "Daoguang" (大清道光年製) mark in seal script, which was famously used by Takahashi on their fine Japanese export wares to enhance the exotic, oriental aesthetic popular in the Western market. A magnificent, highly collectible statement piece for grandmillennial home decor, Takahashi Porcelain enthusiasts, or as a vibrant wall-hanging display!
