These are reproductions of traditional English Staffordshire pottery dogs that were popular in the 19th century. The originals were often displayed in pairs on mantels in Victorian homes, and these modern reproductions continue that decorative tradition.
These reproductions were manufactured in China and decorated in Hong Kong. This manufacturing pattern was particularly typical of export goods from East Asia during the 1970s to 1990s.
