Vintage "Millefleur" Plate | Hand-Painted in Hong Kong on Japanese Earthenware

A stunning vintage decorative plate, estimated to be from the 1960s-1980s. This piece is a beautiful example of the "Millefleur" (or "Hundred Flowers") pattern, a design meant to invoke prosperity and everlasting happiness.

The intricate, hand-painted motif features a large, elegant chrysanthemum at its center, surrounded by a dense field of auspicious blossoms, including peonies symbolizing wealth and plum blossoms representing perseverance. The entire surface is finished with a beautiful crackle glaze (crazing), which is an intentional part of the design that adds to its unique character and vintage charm.
This plate has a unique history, crafted from an earthenware body made in Japan and then meticulously hand-painted in a Hong Kong workshop, a common practice for high-quality export wares of that era. The back is clearly marked: "BLANK EARTHEN BODY FROM JAPAN," "HAND PAINTED IN HONG KONG," and "FOR DECORATIVE USE ONLY."
