Tabernacle Church Cabinet 1700s Italian Spanish Baroque Carved Wood Wall Gilt
Up for auction/sale is a truly exceptional, museum-quality historical treasure: an authentic 18th Century (or earlier) European Religious Art Tabernacle / Sacristy Wall Cabinet. This magnificent cupboard was originally used in a church, monastery, or private chapel in Continental Europe (Spain, Italy, or France) to house sacred items, representing a pinnacle of Ecclesiastical antiquities.
For the seasoned antique connoisseur, the ultimate proof of its pedigree lies in its hardware: the doors are secured by completely original, primitive "Snipe Hinges" (split-pin wire hinges). Instead of modern screwed-on metal plates, the loops of two hand-forged iron wires interlock and are driven directly into the ancient wood core (see the last photos). This magnificent pre-industrial detail beautifully validates the incredible age and undisputed authenticity of this piece.
The front double doors and both side panels feature deeply hand-carved, high-relief floral and acanthus leaf scrollwork, creating a majestic three-sided aesthetic. The central oval motif signifies a Monstrance, flanked by sweeping lines forming a Sacred Heart—a classic hallmark of Catholic religious iconography. Traces of the original gold leaf gilding remain nestled within the deep gouges of the carvings, creating a sacred, historic luster.
Inside, the 4-tier cabinet features intricately notched and carved geometric details along every shelf edge. The reverse side comes equipped with two original, heavy-duty hand-forged iron hanging brackets securely attached to the solid wood backing. This is a once-in-a-lifetime centerpiece for high-end antique collectors.

Wood & Carving: Shows beautiful signs of extreme age, including expected wood separation, chipping to the carved edges, scuffs, and gilt loss. There are old, dormant woodworm flight holes present (a highly desired and expected hallmark confirming true antiquity; completely stable and inactive).
