Museum Antique Ottoman Turkish Coffee Grinder Large Wooden Inlay Bird Mill 19th

This is a spectacular, museum-grade 19th Century to Early 20th Century Ottoman Turkish Large Wooden Coffee Grinder (Mill), discovered in authentic as-found estate condition.

• The Story Encased in Wood: This piece features a long wooden floor/thigh-stabilizing board. The sides of this long board are smoothly weathered and faded from years of friction, where the original coffee masters clamped the board tightly between their thighs to gain maximum leverage while grinding hard roasted beans. The hole at the tip was used to peg or bolt the mill directly to the floor or work bench.

• Masterful Artisan Details: The long board features a stunning, highly detailed wood marquetry/inlay of a bird nestled in floral vines. Additionally, the massive hand-forged iron crank arm features hand-engraved script/signature markings on the reverse side, showing its bespoke aristocratic origin.

• Living History: When discovered, original antique ground coffee from long ago was still resting inside. While it has been carefully cleaned, tiny fragments of historic coffee beans are left bonded to the hopper to preserve the beautiful undisturbed dark patina underneath. The heavy iron crank still turns beautifully, spinning the aggressive internal hand-forged grinding gears smoothly.

• Overall: Outstanding antique condition with an incredible, untouchable historical patina.

• Woodwork: Shows beautiful honest wear, minor surface age splits, and ergonomic fading on the sides from historical thigh contact. The drawer pulls out smoothly and retains its gorgeous porcelain pull knob.

• Metalwork & Mechanics: The iron hopper bowl shows heavy historic oxidation and age-appropriate rust wear/pitting near the bottom throat hole (as pictured). However, the massive iron lever handle operates smoothly, and the internal cutting burrs are completely intact and rotate powerfully when turned.

• Handle Knob: The turned wood knob on the handle shows an old vertical hairline age crack but remains structurally tight and spins as it should. (Please review all photos and video to appreciate the incredible soul of this piece).
