Unlike the common, smaller pocket-sized table medals given to individuals, this grand 8.5-inch plaque is a substantial exhibition-sized display piece. It was likely utilized for institutional display within a French government facility or a scientific exhibition booth during the peak of the Art Deco era.
Artistic Design & Significance
- Sculptor: Features the crisp signature of the renowned French medalist and sculptor, Émile Blin (1867-1930), engraved on the lower left (
E. BLIN). - Iconography: A beautiful Art Deco allegorical depiction of a seated female figure (Goddess of Science/Reason) holding a drafting compass, with a large industrial gear/cogwheel at her feet.
