Bendt Winge Kleppe Mobelfabrik Norwegian Modern Drop Leaf Gateleg Dining Table

An iconic piece of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern design: the "Klaffebord nr. 2" (Flap Table No. 2) drop-leaf gateleg table. Designed by the legendary Norwegian interior architect Bendt Winge for Kleppe Møbelfabrikk, manufactured in Bystese, Norway during the 1950s/1960s.

This brilliant, space-saving design is famous for its sculptured, organic oval-cutout gatelegs. When fully folded, it slims down to a mere 8 inches wide, acting as a discreet console table. Raise one leaf for a spacious laptop desk, or raise both to seat up to 4 to 6 comfortably as a dining table.

The underside retains the original golden manufacturer's foil label and "MADE IN NORWAY" stamps. This piece is a prime candidate for a refinishing project or for those who appreciate the untouched, raw vintage patina of authentic MCM furniture.

Condition Report (As-Is / Project Piece)

• Tabletop: The top surfaces show significant finish wear, overall sun fading, discoloration, and prominent historic water rings/stains. There are NO deep gouges or structural wood losses—the wood is ripe and ready for a good sanding and fresh coat of oil/lacquer.

• Gateleg Framework (Age-Related Checking): A distinct surface checking/drying crack is present on one of the moveable Y-shaped gatelegs, located at the central joint right above the oval cutout (see closeup image). This is a very common, age-related phenomenon in solid wood Mid-Century Scandinavian furniture caused by decades of natural wood shrinkage. It does NOT affect the current structural stability of the leg. The mechanism works smoothly, and the table does not wobble.

• Body & Overall Wear: There are numerous small scuffs, light scratches, and signs of age and use throughout, typical of an authentic vintage piece.

• Summary: Selling strictly "As-Is" as a great restoration project piece for Mid-Century Modern enthusiasts or vintage dealers looking to flip. The crack is cosmetic/surface-level but can be easily addressed (filled/glued) if a full museum-quality restoration is desired.
