This is a fascinating antique terracotta votive foot, modeled after the ancient Roman and Etruscan anatomical offerings placed at sacred altars.
The artifact beautifully depicts a human foot detailed with what appears to be a traditional ancient sandal strap running across the top.
A 5/8" diameter hole is drilled straight through the ankle down to the flat base, indicating its ritual use or later adaptation as a candle holder or incense burner. The top and sides around the hole feature authentic black waxy residue and soot patina, showcasing its genuine historical character and past use on an altar. A superb addition to any antiquities, grand tour, or curiosity collection.
