Antique New England Cherry One-Drawer Work Table c.1820s Original Mushroom Knob
Note: "Round wooden pegs at corners slightly loose (top detaches if lifted). Small losses, stains, and darkened areas on the surface. No Key."
A charming early 19th-century New England work table featuring a single drawer and elegantly tapered legs.
Constructed primarily of cherry wood with some pine elements, this piece retains its original mushroom knob and classic hand-crafted joinery typical of the Federal / Shaker era.
The finish shows authentic age-related wear — including surface scratches, old stains, and color variations from two centuries of use — giving it a genuine antique character.
The tabletop is secured with four round wood pegs; these have loosened slightly over time, and the top can lift off when raised. The drawer slides smoothly and the structure remains sturdy for display or light use.
This table was once referenced in an appraisal column (May 1998, Ocean City, NJ), described as an early New England piece circa early 1800s, originally painted and later stripped to reveal the natural cherry grain. It was appraised at $750 (1998 insurance value).

Original finish with heavy patina, scratches, and marks throughout
Round wooden pegs at corners slightly loose (top detaches if lifted)
