Antique Japanese Goban Go Board Table Gold Lacquer Sakura Plant Stand Low 1917

Sale price$450.00

Product Description
This is a highly rare and visually stunning authentic Antique Japanese Goban (Go Game Board Table), dated specifically to January 1917 (Taisho 6). In the modern Western interior market, these traditional footed boards are highly sought-after and ingeniously repurposed as upscale Plant Stands for Bonsai/houseplants, low-profile side tables, or statement display risers for fine art.
What sets this piece apart from ordinary go boards is the breathtaking, luxurious decoration. The sides are adorned with rich gold foil/lacquer backing, featuring hand-painted Sakura (Cherry Blossoms) and a Tombo (Dragonfly)—a traditional Japanese symbol of courage and good fortune. The four beautifully hand-carved legs are entirely finished in brilliant gold gilt.
On the underside, it features the traditional square pyramid-shaped "Heso" (sound resonance chamber), a hallmark of master craftsmanship. Next to it, the original artist/owner's signature and date are written in crisp calligraphy: "大正六年 壱月 藤田長平" (January 1917, Chohei Fujita). This provenance transforms the item from a mere vintage game board into a 100+ year-old historical masterpiece with a unique story.
