Antique Ifugao Duyu Wooden Bowl Philippines Ritual Hand Carved Primitive
Item Description
This is an authentic, vintage to antique hand-carved wooden ritual bowl, known as a Duyu (or Duyo), from the Ifugao culture of Northern Luzon, Philippines.
Carved from a single piece of dense indigenous tropical hardwood, this bowl features a stunning 12-point star or scalloped rim design resting on a raised pedestal foot. These vessels were traditionally used by tribal priests to hold food or sacred rice wine (baya) during important ceremonies.
It boasts a magnificent, dark aged patina achieved through generations of traditional use, absorption of open-hearth smoke, and organic polishing. A masterful piece of tribal utilitarian art that perfectly embodies the rustic, minimalist Wabi-Sabi aesthetic.
