Charming antique German Majolica-style figural candle holder, circa 1900-1920.
Depicts a pair of lovers leaning forward as if lighting each other's cigarette — a rare, humorous motif typical of the Thuringia region's art pottery (Schafer & Vater attributed).
Richly hand-painted with fine detailing and expressive faces.
Underside bears impressed number 9509 and additional faint marks; no factory stamp visible.
There is a small chip on the underside base, not visible when displayed.
Shows light wax residue from past use but otherwise no cracks or repairs.
A beautiful collectible piece of turn-of-the-century European humor and craftsmanship.
