Antique French Terracotta Pine Resin Collecting Pot Clay Sap Planter Bowl Rustic
Item Description / Overview
This is a highly collectible, authentic antique French terracotta pine resin pot ("Pot à résine") dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Originating from the maritime pine forests of southwestern France (such as the Les Landes region), these historical vessels were attached directly to tree trunks to collect tapping sap/turpentine rosin.
It features a unique, primitive V-shape (tapered conical form) with a wide open rim designed to fit the curve of the tree. Hand-pressed by local rural potters, the exterior beautifully preserves natural clay creases and structural folds born during the molding process, offering a stunning, rustic wabi-sabi character. As a traditional sap gathering vessel, it features a solid flat base with no drainage hole. Today, these rare remnants of French agricultural heritage are deeply prized as unique planters for succulents, herbs, or as standout decorative pieces for French country, farmhouse, and cottagecore interior displays.
