Antique Arts & Crafts Mission Oak Metamorphic Library Chair Convertible Ladder

Sale price$380.00

Description
This is a rare and highly desirable genuine Antique Arts & Crafts / Mission Style metamorphic library chair, dating back to the late 19th to early 20th century (circa 1890-1920).
Embodying the true philosophy of the Arts & Crafts movement, this piece rejects mass-production in favor of honest, functional craftsmanship. It is constructed entirely using period-correct slotted (flathead) screws, fine hand-driven nails, and traditional joinery. With a smooth flip-over motion via heavy-duty iron hinges, the handsome solid oak side chair effortlessly transforms into a sturdy 4-step library ladder.
A gorgeous testament to time, the subtle indentation on the backrest rail has worn down naturally over decades, perfectly matching the deep color and rich, authentic patina of the rest of the frame. This dual-purpose statement piece is perfect for a historic home library, a Craftsman-style interior, or as an exquisite antique display stand for plants and books.

Condition
Excellent Antique / Usable Condition—beautifully preserved for genuine period furniture. It retains a stunning, honest patina accumulated over a century of life, with only minor historical scuffs and age-appropriate surface wear.
There is an old, stable crack on the seat surface from a historical nail replacement/repair (fully documented in close-up photos). This crack is completely dormant, dry, and well-secured. Due to its great age and natural wood movement, there is a slight, acceptable play/wobble in the joints, which is entirely normal for genuine period furniture. Overall, the frame remains very solid and structurally sound. The folding hinges and the side security latch operate smoothly, making it perfectly safe and functional for careful daily use or display.
