1910s Tonkbench Piano Seat with Storage — Blue Bird Furniture Los Angeles
A beautiful early 20th-century piano bench by Tonk Manufacturing Co., Chicago — distributed or possibly made under license by Blue Bird Furniture MFG, Santa Fe Ave, Los Angeles, CA.
This solid wood bench features a hinged lift-top storage compartment, ideal for music sheets or small accessories. Original “Tonkbench” paper label remains inside the lid, and a partially legible Blue Bird Furniture sticker is visible on the underside.
The bench retains its original dark finish, showing lovely age patina consistent with over 100 years of use.
There are various signs of age and wear:
Light surface scratches on top
Several dry cracks and a small chip along the front left side board
Minor lift on the corner edge
Damage around the hinge area inside (see close-up photos)
Despite these flaws, the structure is sturdy and remains fully functional — suitable both as a piano bench or rustic coffee table / entryway seat.
